Liingo Eyewear Review: What to Know Before You Buy

Liingo Eyewear is a popular online retailer of eyewear that has gained a reputation for its high-quality products and exceptional customer service. One of the standout features of Liingo Eyewear’s service is their shipping policy.

How Do They Work?

The model of Liingo Eyewear is on par with what most customers expect from an online glasses retailer. They offer a selection of frames for customers to choose from, with a variety of lens options available for each frame. The company makes inputting one’s prescription fairly painless, and they offer tools for customers who aren’t sure about the specifics of their prescription.

Discussed more later, the company has made an effort to make it easy to try on frames both virtually and at home.

What Do They Offer?

Liingo offers a variety of glasses and sunglasses frames, starting at a mid-tier pricing point of about $60, with some “Last Chance” deals pricing frames as low as $49. They offer single-vision, progressive/multifocal, and non-prescription lenses, with progressive/multifocal lenses costing an additional $179.

Most popular lens types are available, including the standard clear lenses, blue light blocking lenses, sunglasses, and light-responsive lenses. The pricing of these lens types varies, depending on the initial lens option selected. Progressive or multifocal lenses tend to cost the most.

Pros & Cons of Liingo Eyewear

Liingo offers free shipping and a fairly liberal try-on policy designed to encourage customers to find the frames they’re most happy with. They also have an easy-to-use virtual try-on tool. We did, however, notice that some frames stated “try-on unavailable” in our research, although it was unclear if this was only for virtual try-on or if it also meant they weren’t available for at-home try-on.

Overall, the biggest con of Liingo seems to be its lack of options on the lower pricing end. While its prices aren’t exorbitant, this is distinctly a mid- to high-priced online retailer.

Cost & Insurance

As touched on earlier, Liingo frames start around $49 and seem to go as high as $129. Non-prescription and standard prescription lenses don’t add to the total cost, but progressive/multifocal lenses add an additional $179.

Additional lens options may or may not further add to the total cost depending on the lenses selected. The most expensive options seem to add between $59 to $79 to the price tag, depending on the option selected.

Like most online glasses retailers, Liingo will qualify as an out-of-network provider on most major vision plans. This means it is often possible to get the cost of your glasses partially or fully reimbursed, but you will have to submit a claim to your insurance company in order to do so.

How Do They Compare Pricewise to Competitors?

Our research seems to indicate that Liingo Eyewear’s pricing is competitive with other online eyewear retailers. While it may not be the cheapest option available, their pricing is relatively equal to that of its competitors in terms of similar quality and features.

However, one area where Liingo Eyewear seems to differ from its competitors is in the availability of cheap, bargain glasses frames. While some online eyewear retailers offer budget frames that are priced at $50 or less, Liingo Eyewear’s frames typically start at around $99, with many styles priced well above that. Their cheapest frames start at $49, and there is only a small selection available at that price point.

While this may be a drawback for some customers who are looking for the absolute lowest prices, it’s important to note that Liingo Eyewear’s frames are known for their high-quality construction and materials. They also offer a wide range of stylish designs and customization options, such as different lens coatings and tints, which may not be available with cheaper frames.

Shipping Information

Liingo Eyewear offers free shipping on all orders regardless of the order size or location. This is a great perk for customers who may be purchasing multiple items or living in remote areas where shipping costs can be prohibitive. The company’s free shipping policy ensures that customers are not hit with unexpected shipping costs at checkout and can enjoy their shopping experience without worrying about added expenses.

For customers who want to receive their orders faster, Liingo Eyewear also offers FedEx 2-day shipping for a fee of $12.95. This is a great option for customers who need their glasses quickly or who want to track their shipment closely.

How Does Ordering Work?

Ordering from Liingo Eyewear is straightforward. The company has a standard and easy-to-understand cart system that holds the selected items you’ve decided you might want to purchase. Assuming you are ordering prescription lenses, the prescription will be entered near the end of the process.

How to Get Started

First, customers visit their website and browse their wide range of eyewear frames. Customers can also use their virtual try-on tool to see how frames look on their face before making a purchase.

Once a customer has selected a frame, they can choose to customize their lenses with various options such as different coatings or tints. After customizing the lenses, customers can enter their prescription information, including their pupillary distance (PD), or opt to have their prescription information verified by Liingo Eyewear’s team.

Customers can then proceed to checkout, where they can choose to use Liingo Eyewear’s free shipping option or upgrade to FedEx 2-day shipping for an additional fee. After completing their purchase, customers can track their order. They will receive updates on the status of their shipment.

Reviews & Brand Reputation

Liingo Eyewear seems to generally review well, with one review noting it was “a user-friendly service that offers affordable frames.” Less well-reviewed is its parent company, 1-800 Contacts. Many reviews report poor service from that company, including troubles with orders, returns, and more.

Is Liingo Eyewear Worth It?

Despite its parent company courting controversy, the reviews for Liingo Eyewear are generally positive and seem to indicate the company is at least worth considering.  Their pricing tends to be fair for what is offered, and shipping is free. They make it easy to try on different frames and find the pair that works best for the look you want.

Alternatives to Consider

Some alternatives worth considering include Eyebuydirect and Warby Parker, both of which tend to review well. Eyebuydirect has an extensive selection of frames to choose from, and Warby Parker is often considered very approachable in terms of usability. With that said, even in the review we linked to in this very section, Liingo is mentioned as an option that is itself worth considering.
